Merawat ingatan untuk mitigasi bencana: sejarah gempa bumi dan tsunami di Majene tahun 1969

This research aims to reconstruct the earthquake and tsunami phenomenon in Majene Regency in 1969 also its impact on the Majene's communities. The earthquake had occurred in Majene Regency that is rooted in a fault in the Makassar Strait. In the last 3 years, this place has stricken by a twice strong earthquake. At the end of 2018, an earthquake and tsunami hit Palu City. Then in early 2021, Mamuju and Majene Regency were also shaken by an Earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2. According to BMKG records, this area has become a regular for earthquakes and tsunamis. As the largest ethnic group in this region, the Mandar community can identify the terms of the Earthquake and Tsunami in their local language. This research is conducted based on the historical method and takes the data from newspapers and testimonies of survivors. The results of this study indicate that the 1969 Earthquake and Tsunami in Majene is still deeply embedded in the collective memory of the community. Moreover, the impact of these events is immortalized in the toponymic of the region. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merekonstruksi peristiwa gempa bumi dan Tsunami di Kabupaten Majene tahun 1969 serta dampaknya bagi kehidupan masyarakat. Gempa Bumi sudah seringkali terjadi di Kabupaten Majene yang bersumber dari sesar di Selat Makassar. Dalam 3 tahun terakhir, kawasan ini telah dilanda dua kali Gempa Bumi yang kuat. Tercatat di akhir tahun 2018 terjadi Gempa Bumi dan Tsunami yang melanda Kota Palu. Kemudian pada awal tahun 2021, Kabupaten Mamuju dan Kabupaten Majene juga diguncang oleh Gempa Bumi berkekuatan 6.2 Magnitudo. Dalam catatan BMKG, kawasan ini telah menjadi langganan Gempa Bumi dan Tsunami. Bahkan, masyarakat Mandar sebagai etnis terbesar di kawasan ini mampu mengidentifikasi istilah Gempa Bumi dan Tsunami dalam bahasa daerahnya. Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan metode sejarah dengan menggunakan data berupa surat kabar dan kesaksian para penyintas. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peristiwa Gempa Bumi dan Tsunami di Majene tahun 1969 masih sangat melekat dalam memori kolektif masyarakat
