Abstract

Objective:The prevalence of inflammation in the oral cavity ranks second most dental and oral diseases in Indonesia, reaching 96.58%. Inflammation is an inflammation of the soft tissue caused by various factors, such as an increase in the number of A.actinomycetemcomitans bacteria, neutrophil degranulation, increased number and strength of leukocyte adhesion in the endothelium thereby increasing the release of arachidonic acid by neutrophils. The right alternative material to be the solution to this problem is lime peel, which is more often disposed of and become environmental waste. It can also be used because the content is known to be rich in flavonoids, namely naringin, hesperidin, naringenin, hesperitin, rutin, nobiletin, and tangeretin. Material and Methods: The extraction method used is maceration. 400 gr of dried lime skin was macerated for 3 days, then filtered to separate the filtrate and the residue then the solvent was evaporated in a vacuum rotary evaporator so that the thick extract was obtained. Made in toothpaste preparations and tested using the Rattusnovergicus strain wistar and evaluated. Results: Citrus Aurantiifolia extract 25% proved to be significant anti-inflammatory agent and has a better effectiveness than Aloclair gel. Conclusion: Citrus Aurantiifolia has been scientifically proven to have anti-inflammatory activity as indicated by changes in oral mucosal lesions of the wistar strain Rattus novergicus. Compounds that provide anti-inflammatory effects are flavonoid compounds.
