<![CDATA[In the last two decades, the development of Islamic boarding schools has occurred rapidly in Indonesian Territories including Banten Province. The existence of a pesantren in a village area should have a positive impact on the surrounding community in terms of spiritual, social, cultural and economic benefits including village infrastructure. This paper aims to determine the extent to which the presence of pesantren influences the level of village development, such as the level of the village index and the level of geographical difficulty. The initial hypothesis stated that the greater the number of Islamic boarding schools in a village, the more developed and advanced the village would be. The statistic used is the chi square test to see the effect of the number of Islamic boarding schools on the village development index level (IDM) and the geographic difficulty index level (IKG). The population in this study were all villages in the four districts of Banten Province, totaling 1,238 villages. By using the Slovin formula, the sample is 304 villages. The result of the chi square test is that the number of Islamic boarding schools in a village has an effect on the status of the developing village index (IDM). The more the number of Islamic boarding schools, the more a village has a tendency to become a village that is not left behind or becomes a developing, advanced or independent village. The number of Islamic boarding schools does not affect the geographical difficulty index, meaning that the greater the number of Islamic boarding schools, a village has a tendency to become a village with a low level of geographical difficulty. Therefore, pesantren must actively participate in the social, cultural and economic empowerment of village communities so that they can make a village develop more advanced.]]>
