Abstract

Aspartame is a synthetic sweetener and sodium benzoate is the second most consumable preservative substance, used widely nowadays in processing and packaging foods. Excessive consumption of these additives is harmful for health, and uncontrolled consumption of these additives is associated with side effects. In this research, the interaction between cobalt metal and aspartate and benzoate ligands was examined to evaluate their reactivity and the obtained product was identified by FT-IR and UV-VIS methods and examined electrochemically by cyclic voltammeters. The FT-IR spectrum of the resulting complex showed the frequencies of 2956, 3133 and 3321 for groups C = O and C = N, and the transfer electron spectrum related to ligand at 700,1738 and 3207 nm range, and the d-d metal transfers in the 380 and 630 nm range. Keywords: Aspartame, Sodium Benzoate, Electrochemical, Cobalt (II) Nitrate
