<![CDATA[Regional governments are led by a head of the region who is assisted by a deputy head of the region. The head of the region has the authority as stipulated in the Regional Government Law. However, there are conditions where the head of the region cannot carry out their duties and authorities, namely when the head of the region resigns temporarily or permanently. This study will discuss the mechanism for filling vacant positions in the event of the absence of the head and deputy head of the region. The problem is that there are two positions responsible for filling the vacancy, but each of them does not have a complete regulation regarding the mechanism, requirements, and accountability. This condition creates legal uncertainty. Using normative juridical research methods, it is known that each of them does not have a complete regulation regarding the mechanism, requirements, and accountability.
