<![CDATA[ABSTRAK. Lembaga adat di Aceh sebetulnya telah ada sebelum adanya UU tentang Pemerintahan Aceh. Artikel ini dikaji dengan menggunakan pendekatan yuridis normatif. Sementara analisis data akan menggunakan teknik content analysis. Dari bahasan ditemukan bahwa dukungan utama kedudukan Mahkamah Adat dalam UU tentang Pemerintahan Aceh adalah Pasal 98 ayat (1), ayat (2), dan ayat (3) yang mengatur tentang lembaga adat dengan kewenangan menyelesaikan persengketaan masyarakat. Keberadaan mahkamah kemudian dipertegas dengan Qanun Nomor 9 Tahun 2008 yang menguraikan tentang prosedur dan struktur perangkat mahkamah adat, tata cara persidangan di mahkamah adat, jenis-jenis kasus yang dapat diselesaikan dan jenis hukuman yang dapat diberikan.
