Abstract

Abstract: Analysis of the composition of Mataram City Middle School waste was carried out by sorting the types of waste such as plastic, paper, metal, organic, glass, textiles, rubber, and others. The research results show that: - The average weight of waste generation is 0.05 kg/person/day, with the highest values occurring at SMPN 24 Mataram, SMPN 18 Mataram, and SMP Muhammadiyah Mataram. - The average volume of waste generated is 0.18 liters/person/day, with the highest value occurring at SMPN 18 Mataram. - The composition of waste is dominated by plastic with the highest percentage, followed by organic waste and paper. - Factors such as activity duration, consumption patterns, and income influence waste generation. Waste management is carried out by collecting, sorting and processing it according to its type. The resulting plastic waste has the potential to be recycled into products such as flower pots or ecobricks. Organic waste can be processed into compost, which can be used to reduce the amount of waste thrown into landfills. Schools can be a place of education for students in waste management, including processing organic waste into compost.
