<![CDATA[ABSTRAK Terdapat sangat banyak peninggalan arsitektur kolonial yang tersebar di seluruh kota-kota di Indonesia, khususnya di Provinsi Jawa Timur. Gaya arsitektur kolonial yang banyak dijumpai akibat peninggalan masa penjajahan adalah gaya arsitektur Indische Empire. Gaya arsitektur Indische Empire yang terdapat pada arsitektur bangunan-bangunan kolonial biasanya dibangun pada pertengahan abad ke 18 sampai abad ke 19. Dari beberapa elemen arsitektural yang terdapat pada fasad bangunan bergaya Indische Empire, bagian atap merupakan salah satu elemen yang memiliki fungsi dan estetika yang penting terhadap bangunan. Atap yang terdapat pada bangunan-bangunan yang memiliki gaya Indische Empire memiliki ciri khas dan karakteristik dibandingkan dengan gaya Empire lain. Oleh karena itu, tulisan ini mencoba untuk mengidentifikasi berbagai macam karakteristik yang terdapat pada desain atap bangunan bergaya Indische Empire, khususnya di Provinsi Jawa Timur.
