<![CDATA[The decline of movie theaters in Banda Aceh began in 1990 until 2000. Aceh was declared a Military Operation Area (DOM) so people were reluctant to leave their homes. High taxes on movie theaters, the distribution of movies through VCDs, and the implementation of Islamic Sharia law also destroyed the movie theater business in Banda Aceh. The impact of absence of cinemas in Banda Aceh city for the past two decades has made it difficult for film lovers to watch films, increased film piracy, and the need for excessive costs, effort, and energy just to enjoy cinema by traveling to other provinces. Similarly, for local filmmakers, there is no public space for them to screen their works. The purpose of this study is to obtain an in-depth description of this phenomenon and the factors of the absence of cinemas for two decades in Banda Aceh City. The approach used is qualitative with the ethnographic method. __________________________________________________________Meredupnya bioskop di kota Banda Aceh berawal tahun 1990 hingga tahun 2000 karena Aceh ditetapkan sebagai Daerah Operasi Militer (DOM) sehingga warga enggan untuk keluar rumah. Pajak bioskop yang tinggi, pembajakan film melalui VCD dan penerapan syariat Islam turut meruntuhkan usaha bioskop di Banda Aceh. Dampak ketiadaan bioskop di kota Banda Aceh selama dua dekade terakhir membuat penikmat film mengalami kesulitan menonton film, meningkatnya pembajakan film serta diperlukan biaya, usaha, dan energi yang berlebihan hanya demi menikmati bioskop dengan bepergian ke Provinsi lain. Begitu pula bagi filmmaker lokal, tidak ada ruang publik bagi mereka untuk dapat menayangkan karya-karyanya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan deskripsi yang mendalam mengenai fenomena ini dan faktor-faktor ketiadaan bioskop selama dua dekade di kota Banda Aceh. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan metode etnografi.]]>
