Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Nosocomial infectious diseases obtained from hospitals come from various types of pathogenic microbes, namely from endogenous or exogenous sources. The impact of nosocomial infections in hospitals is the addition of the number of hospitalization times, increasing treatment costs, and a decline in the image of the hospital. Efforts to prevent nosocomial infections include adhering to hand washing techniques. Hand washing is the main proportion in preventive efforts because it is more effective and economical so that it can minimize the impact of nosocomial infection incidents by 50%. Objective: To analyze hand washing compliance in doctors and nurses with the incidence of Nosocomial Infections in patients in the ICU room of the Haji Makassar Hospital, South Sulawesi Province. Method: The design used is a Cross-Sectional study. The population is all doctors and nurses in the ICU room of the Haji Makassar Hospital (35 people). The method of collection is with total sampling. Data analysis used Chi-square. Then continued using multiple logistic regression tests with regression tests with predictive modeling. Results: Perception of handwashing barriers has a relationship with the incidence of Nosocomial infections (p0.017), handwashing motivation has a relationship with the incidence of Nosocomial infections (p0.033), handwashing attitudes with the incidence of Nosocomial infections (p0.046). The variable that has a strong relationship with the incidence of infection is the perception of handwashing barriers. Conclusion: Compliance with handwashing of doctors and nurses is one of the factors related to the incidence of Nosocomial infections. Further research is needed by increasing the number of samples and using other methods such as experiments.
