ABSTRACT In Indonesia, the consumer protection movement echoes from similar movements in the United States. YLKI is popularly known as the pioneer of consumer advocacy in Indonesia. The absence of a balanced protection causes consumers in a weak position. The losses on consumers can arise as a result of a legal agreement between consumers and producers, as well as a result of unlawful acts committed by the producers. The problems of the study in this undergraduate thesis are how is the position and the function of YLPK in protecting the interests of consumers and what the obstaclesthat YLPK faced in protecting the interests of the consumers. Type of research used in this study is a type of empirical legal research. Empirical legal research is a research method that is more emphasis on primary data, where the obtainable data in a study used to assess the application of the law on the public to understand correctly the position, the function and attempts Foundation of Consumers Protection (YLPK) Bali in protecting consumers. Legal materials collection techniques used by the author in this paper is through interviews using a list of questions as a guideline, although it did not rule out a new input required in the interview. The use of interview guidelines are intended for the effectiveness and efficiency of targeted interviews, therefore the interview did not deviate from the planned. The conclusion of this undergraduate thesis is a function of the Foundation of Consumers Protection (YLPK) Bali in protecting the interests of consumers as a non-governmental organization which fight for the rights of the consumers in accordance with Article 4 of Law No. 8 of 1999 in order to re-create a sense of mutual respect between producers and consumers.
