<![CDATA[This study aims to analyze the impact of income disparity between husbands and wives on the development of sakinah (harmonious) families within the framework of Islamic family law. The phenomenon of wives earning a higher income than their husbands is increasingly prevalent, particularly among families in semi-urban areas such as Banjar Agung District, Tulang Bawang Regency. In the context of Islamic family law, the husband is positioned as the head of the household, bearing primary responsibility for financial support and leadership within the family. Thus, it is essential to examine how income inequality influences spousal relations and the realization of sakinah values. This research employs a qualitative approach using a field study design. The informants consist of six women, all wives who work as market traders and earn more than their husbands. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion-drawing techniques. The findings reveal that despite economic disparities, most families maintain household harmony by fostering effective communication and cooperative relationships. Domestic responsibilities and decision-making processes are predominantly shared through mutual consultation, although some couples experience challenges due to unbalanced role distribution. In general, wives continue to uphold their husbands’ position as heads of the household and do not fundamentally alter the normative structure prescribed by Islamic family law.]]>
