This research aims to describe the improvement of reading abilities of students through the Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) model in the fourth grade of SDN 15 Ulu Gadut, Padang City. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle includes stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection with qualitative and quantitative approaches. The subjects of the research consist of the researcher as the teacher, the classroom teacher as an observer, and 23 students (9 boys and 14 girls). Data collection was conducted through observation, tests, and non-test techniques, and then analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The research results show an improvement in various aspects. The average achievement of teaching modules increased from 83.25% (category B) in cycle I to 95.8% (category A) in cycle II. The implementation of learning by teachers and student activities also increased from 83.85% (B) to 96.4% (SB). The intensive reading ability of the students improved from an average score of 73.82 (category C) in cycle I to 85.10 (category B) in cycle II. Thus, the application of the Sustained Silent Reading model has proven to be effective in enhancing the intensive reading skills of students in grade IV at SDN 15 Ulu Gadut.
