Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of contextual learning and learning motivation on the English learning achievement of students at SMP YPPK Santo Fransiskus Moanemani in Dogiyai Regency, Central Papua. The background of this research is based on educational challenges in 3T regions (disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost areas), particularly limited internet access, which hampers the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. The method used is a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving two groups: an experimental group that received contextual learning and a control group that used conventional learning methods. The research instruments included a pretest, posttest, learning motivation questionnaire, and observations. The results of data analysis indicate that: (1) contextual learning has a significant effect on students' English learning achievement, (2) learning motivation has a significant influence on learning achievement, and (3) there is a simultaneous effect of contextual learning and learning motivation on learning achievement. These findings affirm that contextual learning approaches adapted to local characteristics are highly effective in remote areas and can significantly improve student learning outcomes.
