Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) have great potential to create quality human resources, provided they can adapt to ongoing globalization without losing their distinctive characteristics. There are several reasons why pesantren have greater opportunities compared to other educational institutions: first, pesantren accommodate the nation's youth with limitless education; second, pesantren education balances physical and spiritual needs; third, pesantren education is widespread across various regions; and fourth, pesantren education aligns with sharia principles and social values in society. Pondok pesantren memiliki peluang besar dalam menciptakan SDM yang berkualitas dengan catatan pondok pesantren mampu beradaptasi dengan globalisasi yang sedang terjadi tanpa meningkatkan watak kepesantrenannya. Ada beberapa alasan mengapa pesantren mempunyai peluang lebih besar daripada lembaga pendidikan lainnya: pertama, pesantren yang ditempati generasi bangsa dengan pendidikan yang tiada batas; kedua, pendidikan pesantren yang memberikan keseimbangan antara pemuasan lahir dan batin; ketiga, pendidikan pesantren telah tersebar di berbagai wilayah; dan keempat, pendidikan pesantren sesuai dengan prinsip-prinsip syariah dan sosial di masyarakat.
