This study aims to describe reading difficulties and to determine the factors causing reading difficulties for grade 3 elementary school students at SDN Brangkal Kalijambe, Sragen. This study uses a qualitative research method through a descriptive method. Data collection techniques in this study are observation, interviews, and documentation. Teachers and grade 3 students serve as research subjects. Data collection methods from interviews and observations. The findings show that students in grade 3 elementary school experience reading difficulties at first because they have difficulty distinguishing almost identical letters, reading consonant combinations, and have difficulty reading fluently. Poor intellectuality, decreasing interest in students to start reading, low motivation of students in early reading, and lack of parental attention are factors that hinder the difficulty of early reading. So it can be said that grade 3 students at SDN Brangkal Sragen still have difficulty starting to read. It is anticipated that this study will have implications for increasing students' reading challenges.
