Relasi Etnisitas Jawa-Cina dalam Masyarakat Majemuk

Abstract

This study aims to explore the personal values of the Chinese and Javanese, acccording to their own etnicity as well as other etnic perspectives. An inter-method triangulation method was used, i.e. a perception scale method toward other etnicity and questionnaire method to reveal perception towards etnicity. Subjects were 130 people consisting 68 Javanese and 62 Chinese etnic, gathered through purposive sampling in the Surakarta region. Results from the data anaysis show differences in perception between the Javanese and the Chinese, either in valueing one-self or other etnic groups. The Javanese tend to be more negative, either in judging one-self or the Chinese. Both, either the Chinese or the Javanese have labeled their own etnicity more positive than other etnics. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan pemahaman tentang jati diri etnis Jawa dan etnis Cina, baik menurut perspektif etnisnya sendiri maupun etnis lain. Metode yang digunakan adalah triangulasi antar metode, yaitu metode skala persepsi terhadap etnis dan metode angket untuk mengungkap persepsi terhadap etnis. Subjek terdiri atas 130 orang yang terdiri atas 68 orang etnis Jawa dan 62 orang etnis Cina yang diambil secara purposive sampling di wilayah Surakarta. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan persepsi antara Kelompok etnis Jawa dan etnis Cina, baik dalam memandang diri sendiri maupun etnis lain. Kelompok etnis Jawa cenderung lebih negatif, baik dalam memandang jati diri etnisnya sendiri maupun etnis Cina. Keduanya, baik etnis Cina maupun etnis Jawa memandang etnis sendiri lebih positif daripada etnis lain.
