Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of the External Quality Assurance System (SPME) and accreditation at Islamic Educational Institutions (LPIs) through a literature review. This study was conducted by critically reviewing various scientific sources, such as journal articles, books, and policy documents, to conceptualize the SPME, identify its normative foundation in the Qur'an (the principles of Ihsan and Amanah), and outline the challenges and opportunities for its implementation at LPIs. The results indicate that the SPME functions as an accountability instrument and a catalyst for quality improvement that aligns with global demands. However, LPIs face a unique dilemma in bridging the quantitative national accreditation standards with the qualitative characteristics of their education, such as character development and the integration of Islamic values. This study concludes that an effective SPME implementation strategy must be balanced with a strengthened Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) and innovation in documenting Islamic identity as a competitive advantage.
