HUBUNGAN KECERDASAN EMOSIONAL DENGAN KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR KRITIS SISWA KELAS VI PADA MATA PELAJARAN IPAS

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills in sixth-grade students in the science subject in elementary school. This study used a quantitative research approach with a correlational approach. The study was conducted at SD Negeri 182/I Hutan Lindung during the odd semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The sample used was a total sampling, with a population of 20 sixth-grade students. The instruments used were an emotional intelligence questionnaire and a critical thinking skills test. The data were analyzed using inferential statistics using normality tests, linearity tests, and Pearson Product Moment correlation tests. The results of the study showed a correlation coefficient of 0.756 between emotional intelligence and students' critical thinking skills, which is greater than the rtable value of 0.444, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. This value indicates a significant relationship, with the relationship being categorized as strong. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination of 0.572 indicates that emotional intelligence contributes 57.20% to students' critical thinking skills. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills in sixth-grade students in the science subject. Therefore, the development of emotional intelligence needs to be given attention in the learning process to ensure optimal development of students' critical thinking skills.
