<![CDATA[This study aims to describe the forms, factors, and functions of code-mixing used in the learning process at UPTD SMPN 1 Kapur IX, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The background of this research is the frequent use of Indonesian mixed with Minangkabau and other languages in classroom interactions, considering that the school is located in an area where the local language is predominantly used in daily communication. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The data consisted of utterances produced by teachers and students of class VIII.3 in Indonesian Language, Science, and Civic Education subjects. Data were collected through non-participatory observation, recording, and note-taking techniques, while data validity was ensured through source triangulation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that code-mixing occurred in the forms of words, phrases, and clauses, with phrases and clauses being the most dominant forms. The factors causing code-mixing included speaker factors, interlocutor factors, and habitual factors, with the interlocutor factor being the most dominant due to teachers’ adjustments to students’ linguistic backgrounds. The functions of code-mixing in the learning process included emphasizing certain meanings, expressing personal identity, and building familiarity between teachers and students, with the function of emphasizing meaning as the most dominant. Code-mixing in classroom interaction functions as a communicative strategy to facilitate students’ understanding of learning materials and to create a more interactive learning atmosphere.
