Melampaui Kritik Isrā’īliyyāt: al-Durr al-Manthūr sebagai Ensiklopedi Tafsir dan Warisan Intelektual al-Suyūṭī

Al-Durr al-Manthūr fī al-Tafsīr bi al-Maʾthūr, authored by Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī, is often regarded as a work of tafsīr bi al-riwāyah heavily laden with Isrāʾīliyyāt reports and weak chains of transmission. Such assessments have led to the assumption that this work lacks sufficient authority to serve as a primary reference in Qur’anic exegesis. Conversely, al-Durr al-Manthūr contains significant methodological and epistemological value for understanding the dynamics of Qur’anic interpretation in the formative generations. Accordingly, this study seeks to reassess the methodological potential of the work in relation to the needs of contemporary Qur’anic studies. The central question addressed is to what extent the complexity of al-Durr al-Manthūr’s compilation reflects its authoritative value and relevance within modern tafsīr scholarship. This research employs a library-based study with a descriptive-analytical approach to the structure, content, and compositional strategies of the text. The findings demonstrate that al-Suyūṭī deliberately refrained from applying normative selection to the transmitted reports, instead arranging them as an open exegetical archive. This strategy enables intertextual, thematic, and historical readings of the Qur’an that remain rooted in tradition while allowing contextual engagement. The article argues that al-Durr al-Manthūr should be preserved not only as a legacy of classical Qur’anic exegesis but also as an epistemic foundation for the development of contemporary tafsīr methodologies. Tafsir al-Durr al-Manthūr fī al-Tafsīr bi al-Ma’tsūr karya Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī kerap dianggap sebagai karya tafsir bi al-riwāyah yang sarat dengan riwayat isrā’īliyyāt dan sanad lemah. Penilaian tersebut memunculkan asumsi bahwa karya ini tidak cukup otoritatif untuk dijadikan rujukan utama dalam studi tafsir. Di sisi lain, al-Durr al-Manthūr justru menyimpan nilai metodologis dan epistemologis yang penting dalam membaca dinamika penafsiran Al-Qur’an dari generasi awal. Oleh karena itu, kajian ini menjadi mendesak untuk mengungkap ulang potensi metodologis kitab tersebut dalam kaitannya dengan kebutuhan studi tafsir kontemporer. Penelitian ini mengajukan pertanyaan utama: sejauh mana kompleksitas penyusunan al-Durr al-Manthūr mencerminkan nilai otoritatif dan relevansinya dalam khazanah tafsir modern? Metode yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka dengan pendekatan deskriptif-analitis terhadap struktur, isi, dan strategi penulisan dalam karya tersebut. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa al-Suyūṭī secara sadar tidak melakukan seleksi normatif terhadap ragam riwayat, tetapi menyusunnya sebagai arsip tafsir terbuka. Strategi ini memungkinkan pembacaan intertekstual, tematik, dan historis atas Al-Qur’an yang berakar pada tradisi, namun tetap kontekstual. Artikel berargumen bahwa al-Durr al-Manthūr tidak hanya layak dipertahankan sebagai warisan tafsir klasik, tetapi juga sebagai fondasi epistemik bagi pengembangan metodologi tafsir kontemporer.
