Abstract

English teachers in Singkawang City have so far engaged in professional development primarily on an individual basis, with limited organisational collaboration and support. Although professional forums such as Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) exist, their activities are often inactive and fail to effectively engage members. This condition makes it difficult for teachers to access structured professional development opportunities and collaborative learning. This Community Service Programme consisted of technical guidance activities for organising workshops aimed at promoting collaboration among English teachers, with the goal of building a sustainable professional network and enhancing organisational capacity. The programme was implemented through needs analysis, mentoring, and collaborative activities, with data collected via focus group discussions (FGDs), social media discussions, and online surveys. A team of lecturers from Tanjungpura University facilitated online mentoring sessions, including coordination with national and international educational organisations. Subsequently, the team, together with colleagues from Muhammadiyah University of Pontianak, conducted on-site mentoring activities in Singkawang City. The results of the programme indicated an increase in teachers’ collaboration, motivation, and confidence. The participating teachers actively engaged in activity planning, improved their communication and organisational skills, and developed collaborative learning approaches. The programme successfully established a relatively strong professional network that supports independent, sustainable development initiatives.
