This study is motivated by the phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing in literary works, particularly the novel Ghazi 5: The Gaze of Ghazi by Felix Y. Siauw, which serves not only as a linguistic variation but also carries stylistic and sociocultural significance. This study aims to identify forms of code-switching and code-mixing involving Arabic and to analyse the functions and connotative meanings contained therein. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques involving reading and note-taking. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the code-switching identified is external code- switching between Indonesian and Arabic, whilst code-mixing is dominated by word insertion. These phenomena are influenced by the historical Islamic fiction setting of the novel. Furthermore, the use of code-switching and code-mixing serves to reinforce religious undertones, depict situations, and affirm the characters’ identities. The connotative meanings identified tend to be positive and relate to Islamic values. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the field of sociolinguistic literary studies, particularly in the linguistic analysis of fictional works.
