Abstract

Limited healthcare personnel and inadequate mental health facilities are global issues. Clients with mental health problems continue to face negative stigma, and this is a problem that has yet to be resolved. The use of technology, such as telepsychiatry for mental health services, can expand coverage, especially for people in remote areas. The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness, acceptance, and affordability of telepsychiatry services for the productive age population in remote areas. A systematic review was conducted using the PRISMA guidelines and online databases, including Science Direct, Scopus, and ProQuest. The search yielded 2037 articles that matched the keywords. The articles were then filtered according to the inclusion criteria of the study, which included original research, full text availability, and publication between January 2020 and April 2025. There were 40 articles that passed the eligibility evaluation, resulting in 23 articles being excluded because they were not original research (1), did not discuss telepsychiatry (15), and the characteristics of the respondents and the location of the study were not suitable (10). A total of 14 articles met the established criteria. After identifying these articles, it was found that the studies assessed effectiveness (6), affordability (6), and acceptance (12). Previous studies have shown that telepsychiatry is widely used by people of productive age to access mental health services, especially those living in remote areas. Resources, including devices and internet connectivity, are determining factors in the sustainability of this service, thus requiring support from relevant policymakers to ensure the continuity of technology-based mental health services
