Livestock feed availability in Besuki Village is limited during the dry season, while rice farming generates abundant rice straw that is underutilized due to its low nutritional value. This community service program aimed to enhance farmers’ capacity to process rice straw using ammoniation technology as an alternative feed for goats and sheep. The program was implemented through socialization, demonstration, hands-on practice, and evaluation of the fermentation process. The results indicated that ammoniated rice straw showed improved physical characteristics, including a softer texture and a non-pungent odor, suggesting successful fermentation. Participants also demonstrated increased knowledge and skills in utilizing agricultural by-products. In conclusion, rice straw ammoniation is a feasible and sustainable approach to improving feed availability, optimizing agricultural waste utilization, and supporting self-reliant small ruminant farming in Besuki Village.
