Abstract

One of the barriers and challenges to the success of exclusive breastfeeding is the mother's knowledge. Efforts to improve mothers' knowledge about breast milk and breastfeeding are carried out from the pregnancy period, through counseling during the fourth prenatal visit (K4) and through Pregnant Mother Classes. However, data shows that the coverage of the K4 visit is only 75.8% of the 95% target. Meanwhile, the percentage of mothers who have attended Pregnant Mother Classes is only 36.6%. One of the global strategies by WHO-UNICEF to increase exclusive breastfeeding rates is by providing education on the importance of breast milk and breastfeeding during ANC (antenatal care). Breastfeeding preparation for pregnant mothers can increase their confidence in providing breast milk to their babies after delivery. Providing education about breast milk and breastfeeding to third-trimester pregnant mothers is an effort to prepare them for the breastfeeding phase to improve the success of exclusive breastfeeding. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge of third-trimester pregnant mothers about breast milk and breastfeeding. The method used is a lecture method with educational media in the form of leaflets and discussions. This activity was carried out on February 1, 2026, at the LKC DD Sumsel Clinic. The evaluation results of the pre-test and post-test assessments showed an increase in the knowledge of third-trimester pregnant mothers after being given education about breast milk and breastfeeding. In the pre-test, the average score was 55.6, and in the post-test, the average score was 80. Providing education about breast milk and breastfeeding is important to be carried out from the pregnancy phase.
