Abstract

Language is a complex system of communication that conveys meaning through various layers and dimensions. Leech's theory of seven types of meaning (1987) provides a comprehensive framework for analyzing the multifaceted nature of linguistic meaning. This research aims to analyze the representation of Leech's seven types of meaning in the English version of YOASOBI's song "IDOL". It aims to identify and examine the occurrence of conceptual, connotative, social, affective, reflected, collocative, and thematic meanings within the song's lyrics. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach to analyze the semantic meanings in YOASOBI's "IDOL" English lyrics. The method allows for an in-depth exploration and interpretation of the various meanings embedded within the song lyrics, providing flexibility to examine nuances, contexts, and subtle variations in meaning. The study of YOASOBI's "IDOL" English version, based on Leech's seven types of meaning framework, reveals a complex narrative that effectively bridges Japanese idol culture with international audiences. The translation maintains emotional authenticity and accessibility, with 26 instances of Affective Meaning and 16 instances of Social Meaning. The balanced distribution between Connotative and Conceptual Meaning ensures both literal clarity and cultural nuance.
