<![CDATA[This study aims to explore how Instagram second accounts function as a space for Gen Z to express their true selves. The research employs the theories of self-disclosure, the Johari Window, and dramaturgy. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that second accounts genuinely serve as a space for Gen Z to represent their true selves. In a digital environment that is less pressured, more private, and free from social expectations and normative demands, participants can present the most honest, emotional, and authentic aspects of themselves. Expert insights further confirm that social pressure is a major factor preventing individuals from fully expressing themselves in public spaces. Religious, social, and cultural norms—such as expectations to always appear well-behaved, polite, stable, or not overly emotional—often lead individuals to adjust their self-expression. However, second accounts provide a safer, smaller, and more controlled environment that allows individuals to detach from these standards. Thus, second accounts not only serve as an escape from social expectations but also provide a meaningful space for self-understanding and the expression of one’s true self. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana second account Instagram mampu menjadi ruang untuk menunjukkan true self pada Gen Z. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori self-disclosure, jendela Johari, dan dramaturgi. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa second account benar-benar menjadi ruang representasi true self bagi Gen Z. Dalam lingkungan digital yang minim tekanan, lebih privat, dan tidak dipenuhi tuntutan citra dan norma, para narasumber dapat menampilkan sisi diri yang paling jujur, emosional, dan apa adanya. Hal ini dikonfirmasi oleh ahli, yaitu bahwa tekanan sosial merupakan faktor terbesar yang sering menahan seseorang untuk menampilkan dirinya secara utuh di ruang publik. Norma agama, norma sosial, dan norma budaya seperti harapan untuk selalu terlihat baik, sopan, stabil, atau tidak terlalu emosional membuat individu menyesuaikan ekspresinya. Namun, second account memberi ruang yang lebih aman, kecil, dan terkendali sehingga individu dapat melepaskan diri dari standar tersebut. Dengan demikian, second account tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai tempat pelarian dari ekspektasi sosial, tetapi juga sebagai ruang untuk memahami diri dan mengekspresikan true self mereka.]]>
