Ethanol extract of the of red andong leaves has strong antioxidant activity and has the potential to be a sunscreen with maximum protection. This study aims to formulate and evaluate the sunscreen activity of a lotion preparation made from ethanol extract of red andong leaves. The sunscreen activity test was carried out using the UV-Vis spectrophotometer method with a wavelength of 290-320 nm. The ethanol extract of the red andong leaves is formulated in lotions with various concentrations (F1: 5%, F2: 10%, F3: 15%). The lotion was tested for physical properties including organoleptic, viscosity, dispersibility, pH, homogeneity, type of lotion, and protection ability. The results showed that the ethanol extract of red andong leaves can be formulated into lotion preparations, where the three lotion formulas with variations in the concentration of 5%, 10%, and 15% of the red andong leaf extract ethanol produce light brown, the distinctive odor, semi-solid, a homogeneous, M/A type emulsion, meets the requirements of pH, viscosity, dispersibility, and provides protection. The results of the sunscreen activity test were respectively 9,81±0,10; 12,15±0,25; 14,03±0,53, with the highest SPF value being 14,03±0,53 in formula III (15% red andong ethanol extract) which is included in the maximum protection category.
