Abstract

Introduction: Lumbar spondylosis is a degenerative condition of the lumbar spine that frequently causes low back pain and limitations in functional activities. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and core stability exercise are known to help reduce pain and improve patient function. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the combination of TENS and core stability exercise in pain and functional activity in patients with lumbar spondylosis. Methods: This study used a case study design involving a 59-year-old female patient diagnosed with low back pain due to lumbar spondylosis at the Physiotherapy Clinic of RSUD Tondano. The intervention was administered over six therapy sessions using TENS and core stability exercises, including pelvic tilt, marching in place, seated knee lifts, and modified bird-dog exercises. Evaluation was conducted using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to assess pain intensity and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) to evaluate functional activity. Results: Showed a reduction in movement pain, with the VAS score decreasing from 4 to 2 after six therapy sessions, there was an improvement in functional activity, indicated by a decrease in the ODI score from 32% (moderate disability) to a lower level of disability after the intervention. Conclusion: The combination of TENS and core stability exercise was effective in reducing pain and improving functional activity in patients with lumbar spondylosis.
