Analisis Perbandingan Pengelasan Baja ST37 Menggunakan Metode SMAW dan GMAW

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas perbandingan pengelasan Baja ST37 menggunakan metode Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) dan Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) berdasarkan kualitas sambungan, waktu pengerjaan, kekuatan tarik, dan jumlah cacat las. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen dengan melakukan pengelasan pada spesimen Baja ST37 menggunakan kedua metode, kemudian dilakukan pengujian tarik menggunakan Universal Testing Machine (UTM) serta pemeriksaan visual hasil las. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode GMAW memiliki waktu pengerjaan lebih cepat, yaitu rata-rata 8 menit dibandingkan SMAW selama 12 menit. Nilai kekuatan tarik tertinggi pada metode GMAW mencapai 485 MPa, sedangkan SMAW sebesar 432 MPa. Selain itu, metode GMAW menghasilkan jumlah cacat las yang lebih sedikit dibandingkan SMAW.   This study discusses the comparison of welding ST37 steel using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) methods based on joint quality, working time, tensile strength, and the number of welding defects. The research method used was experimental by performing welding on ST37 steel specimens using both methods, then conducting tensile tests using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and visual inspections of the weld results. The results of the study show that the GMAW method has a faster working time, averaging 8 minutes compared to 12 minutes for SMAW. The highest tensile strength value using the GMAW method reached 485 MPa, while SMAW was 432 MPa. In addition, the GMAW method produced fewer welding defects compared to SMAW.
