Abstract

The increasing demand for safe, reliable, and sustainable energy storage systems has accelerated the development of solid-state battery technologies. Traditional batteries using liquid electrolytes have problems of lack of security, leakage of the electrolyte and lack of stability of the interface which curtails long-term reliability in the operation of the battery. A solid-state battery system with alternative polymer materials is achieved in this study through the mixture of biodegradable polylactic acid/multi-walled carbon nanotube (PLA/MWCNT) composite anode with a solid polymer electrolyte membrane made of poly(vinyl alcohol), hydrochloric acid, and tetraethyl orthosilicate (PVA/HCl/TEOS). The PLA/MWCNT composite electrodes were prepared by solution casting technique with different MWCNT contents (0.5 g, 0.6 g, and 0.7 g) to determine their effects on the electrochemical performance. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to characterize electrochemically. The findings show that, PLA/MWCNT electrode having 0.6 g MWCNT has the best current response, longest discharge time and lowest charge transfer resistance, which means it has a good balance between the electrical conductivity and the structural homogeneity. The polymer electrolyte membrane is solid and is characterized by ionic conductivity that is stable as well as interfaces with the composite electrode. On balance, this research paper shows that biodegradable polymer-based composite electrodes and solid polymer electrolytes have the potential to be a viable and sustainable solution to the creation of solid-state battery systems with enhanced safety and electrochemical functioning.
