Librarian Credibility and User Satisfaction at Universitas Sebelas Maret Library: A Pilot Study

Abstract

Latar belakang: Kepuasan pengguna merupakan indikator penting kualitas layanan di perpustakaan perguruan tinggi. Kredibilitas pustakawan sering dipandang sebagai faktor yang berkaitan dengan pengguna dalam menerima layanan. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis hubungan antara kredibilitas pustakawan dan kepuasan pengguna di Perpustakaan Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS). Metode: Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain survei potong lintang (cross-sectional). Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner terstruktur dari 30 pengguna perpustakaan. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan regresi linear sederhana. Hasil: Kredibilitas pustakawan berhubungan positif dan signifikan dengan kepuasan pengguna (β = 0,870; p < 0,001). Model regresi menunjukkan nilai R² sebesar 0,757, yang mengindikasikan adanya asosiasi yang kuat antara kredibilitas pustakawan dan kepuasan pengguna dalam sampel penelitian ini. Kesimpulan: Semakin tinggi kredibilitas pustakawan yang dirasakan pengguna, semakin tinggi pula kepuasan pengguna. Temuan ini menunjukkan pentingnya penguatan kredibilitas pustakawan sebagai bagian dari strategi peningkatan layanan. Penelitian selanjutnya disarankan menggunakan sampel yang lebih besar dan menambahkan variabel lain untuk memperluas pemahaman tentang faktor yang berkaitan dengan kepuasan pengguna.   Background: User satisfaction is a key indicator of service quality in academic libraries. Librarian credibility is often viewed as an important factor that shapes users’ service experiences. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the association between librarian credibility and user satisfaction at the Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Library. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was used. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire from 30 library users and analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. Results: Librarian credibility was positively and significantly associated with user satisfaction (β = 0.870, p < .001). The R² value of 0.757 indicated a strong association between librarian credibility and user satisfaction in this study sample. Users reported higher satisfaction when they perceived librarians as competent, trustworthy, and professional during service interactions. Conclusion: Strengthening librarian credibility is relevant to improving service quality in academic libraries. Future research should include larger samples and additional variables to better understand how librarian credibility is associated with user satisfaction.
