The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed the dissemination of information in digital spaces while creating new challenges in combating online hoaxes in Indonesia. In response, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) developed the Artificial Intelligence System (AIS) to support the detection and control of hoaxes and digital disinformation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of AI by Kominfo in addressing online hoaxes in Indonesia during the 2024–2025 period and to evaluate its effectiveness and challenges from the perspective of public accountability. This research employed a qualitative approach through document analysis and literature review of government reports, policy documents, regulations, and relevant academic publications. The findings indicate that AIS has improved the speed and effectiveness of hoax detection while strengthening digital information governance. However, its implementation still faces challenges related to algorithmic bias, limited transparency (black box), and difficulties in understanding Indonesia's linguistic and cultural contexts. The study concludes that AI implementation should be accompanied by transparency, accountability, and the protection of civil liberties to ensure consistency with democratic principles.
