Bambang lanang (Michelia champaca L.) is a forestry plant species with high ecological and economic value and has strong potential for development in forest rehabilitation and conservation programs. The limited availability of topsoil has encourages the use of subsoil as an alternative growing medium; however, it has relatively low fertility. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of subsoil, sawdust charcoal, and cattle manure composition on the growth of bambang lanang seedlings. The experiment employed a Completely Randomized Design with a single factor, namely growing media composition, consisting of six treatments with six replications. The results showed that the growing media composition had a highly significant effect on height increment, fresh weight, and dry weight of the seedlings, and a significant effect on diameter increment and number of leaves, while it had no significant effect on root length. The treatment consisting of 75% subsoil combined with 25% cattle manure, as well as the combination of 75% subsoil, 6.25% sawdust charcoal, and 18.75% cattle manure, produced the best seedling growth. In contrast, the treatment with the addition of 25% sawdust charcoal resulted in the lowest growth performance. So, cattle manure improves the growth of bambang lanang seedlings in subsoil media.
