The high mobility of boarding house residents demands an adaptive and integrated security system, while most boarding houses still use conventional methods with limited monitoring. This study aims to design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart boarding house system to improve security and monitor resident activities. The method used is applied research with a Research and Development (R&D) approach combined with experimental methods. The system was built using ESP32 and ESP32-CAM, RFID sensors as access control, LDR sensors for automatic lighting, servo motors as lock actuators, and the Telegram application for real-time notifications. The results show 100% RFID sensor accuracy at a distance of <3 cm, the servo motor response time when receiving a command is 1.2 seconds and effectively in improving the security of IoT-based boarding houses
