Abstract

Vanamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is a leading commodity in brackish water cultivation in Indonesia due to its production efficiency and high market demand. Water quality is a crucial factor in successful cultivation, where the aeration system plays a role in maintaining dissolved oxygen (DO) levels and suppressing the accumulation of ammonia and nitrite that have the potential to poison shrimp. This study aims to analyze the effect of different aeration systems on water quality and the survival of whiteleg shrimp in the Brackish Water Aquaculture Installation (IBAP) Banjar Kemuning, Sidoarjo. The method used is a comparative descriptive with two treatments, namely a complete aeration system (water wheel, blower, and diffuser) and single aeration (water wheel). The parameters observed include temperature, pH, salinity, DO, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. The results showed that complete aeration produced more stable water quality with high DO levels and lower ammonia and nitrite levels compared to single aeration. The survival rate (SR) in complete aeration reached 72.21%. 83.35%, 75.40%, and 76.68%, respectively. In conclusion, a complete aeration system is more effective in maintaining water quality, improving shrimp survival, and preventing White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) infection. Optimal aeration is a crucial strategy for supporting sustainable whiteleg shrimp cultivation.
