Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is a lipid-metabolism disorder that increases cardiovascular risk through elevated low-density lipoprotein and reduced high-density lipoprotein. Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) and red dragon fruit peel (Hylocereus polyrhizus) contain bioactive compounds with potential lipid-modulating activity. This study analyzed the effectiveness of their combined infusion on low-density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein levels in hyperlipidemic male rats. A laboratory experimental design was applied to 25 male white rats aged 2-3 months and weighing 150-200 g. The rats were divided into five groups: hyperlipidemic control, simvastatin control, and three combined-infusion groups. Hyperlipidemia was induced using quail egg yolk for 24 days, followed by 14 days of intervention. Lipid levels were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, paired comparison, non-parametric, analysis of variance, and post-hoc tests. The combined infusion significantly reduced low-density lipoprotein levels in all treatment groups (p < 0.05). High-density lipoprotein levels increased after intervention but were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). The combined infusion improved lipid profile mainly through low-density lipoprotein reduction, while high-density lipoprotein improvement remained statistically non-significant.
