Abstract

The acculturation process between Batak culture and Islamic teachings arises from dynamic social interactions that shape new traditions while preserving local identity. This study aims to analyze how Batak traditions integrate with Islamic values without losing their cultural essence. Using a descriptive qualitative approach through literature study and direct observation, the research identifies three main traditions that reflect acculturation: Marpege-pege, which incorporates Islamic values of mutual assistance in marriage; Martolong, which adjusts funeral prayers to align with Islamic teachings; and Dalihan Na Tolu, which highlights social harmony consistent with Islamic values. The findings demonstrate that the arrival of Islam did not erase Batak traditions but enriched them through cultural and religious integration. This study implies the significance of cultural respect and adaptation in fostering social harmony within Muslim Batak communities.
