Sutami Reservoir is a multipurpose reservoir located in Malang Regency, Indonesia, which functions as a source of hydropower, fisheries, and domestic water supply. Increasing anthropogenic activities around the reservoir have the potential to affect its water quality and fertility status. This study aimed to assess the trophic status of Sutami Reservoir using the Trophic State Index (TSI) method based on physical and chemical parameters. Water quality sampling was conducted twice in January 2025 at three locations (upstream, middle, and downstream) with varying depths. The parameters analyzed included water temperature, brightness (Secchi disk), pH, total phosphate (PO₄), and chlorophyll-a. The trophic status was determined using Carlson’s TSI, which integrates Secchi disk depth, total phosphate, and chlorophyll-a concentrations. The results showed that the average TSI values ranged from 19.21 to 28.72, indicating oligotrophic conditions, while the middle section of the reservoir at a depth of 0.3 m exhibited a mesotrophic status with a TSI value of 41.09. These findings suggest that Sutami Reservoir generally has low nutrient levels, although localized nutrient enrichment occurs in certain areas, likely influenced by fish farming activities and aquatic vegetation. Continuous monitoring and appropriate management strategies are required to prevent further deterioration of water quality.
