Abstract

This study develops CareerPathES, a certainty factor-based expert system that provides career pathrecommendations for students in the Information Technology (IT) field. Many students face difficulties in choosing careersthat match their interests, talents, and competencies, especially in IT with its various specializations such as BackendDeveloper, Frontend Developer, Data Analyst, and AI/Machine Learning Engineer. The system integrates a careerknowledge base, forward chaining inference rules, and certainty factor calculations to evaluate the compatibility of userswith each profession. Recommendations are presented in bar chart visualizations, showing the compatibility percentage andthe highest-ranking career. The system implementation includes two roles: admin and user, where admins manage theknowledge base and users complete the consultation process. This study demonstrates that the expert system can providelogical, consistent, and user-based career recommendations, supporting more informed and confident career decisionmaking.
