<![CDATA[Fluid restriction is an essential component of hemodialysis care, but it frequently causes thirst and oral dryness that may undermine adherence to prescribed fluid limits. This literature review synthesized evidence on the effectiveness of sucking ice cube therapy in reducing thirst intensity among patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Google Scholar and Garuda Kemdikbud were searched for full-text studies published from 2022 to 2026. Eligible studies involved hemodialysis patients, evaluated sucking ice cube therapy, and measured thirst using a structured instrument. Of 914 records identified, four studies published from 2023 to 2025 met the eligibility and quality criteria. The studies included 202 participants; three used one-group pretest-posttest designs and one used a pretest-posttest design with a control group. All reported statistically significant reductions in thirst intensity after the intervention (p < 0.05). Protocols varied from 4 to 10 minutes per session, one to three sessions per week, and one to five weeks of implementation. Visual Analogue Scale and Dialysis Thirst Inventory were used as outcome measures. Sucking ice cube therapy may reduce thirst intensity and can be considered an adjunct nursing intervention. However, evidence should be interpreted cautiously because most studies lacked a control group and used heterogeneous protocols.]]>
