<![CDATA[Purpose: This study examines the promises and realities of strategies articulated during the four United Nations World Conferences on Women held between 1975 and 1995. The aim is to evaluate both the successes and shortcomings of these global efforts to integrate women into development Methodology: This paper adopts a qualitative review approach, drawing on policy documents, conference reports, scholarly literature, and feminist theoretical frameworks. It systematically analyses the outcomes of the conferences in Mexico City on 1975, Copenhagen on 1980, Nairobi on 1985, and Beijing on 1995 with attention to their global scope and impact, especially in the Global South. Results: Findings indicate a clear gap between formal commitments and actual outcomes. The analysis identifies several critical challenges, including weak enforcement and accountability mechanisms, the predominance of Western-centric feminist frameworks that limit contextual relevance, and enduring structural inequalities that continue to hinder meaningful and sustained transformation. Conclusions: The study concludes that although the strategies were ground-breaking in intent, they produced mixed results. The gap between promises and reality reflects both political compromises and the difficulty of translating international declarations into national and local action. Limitations: The reliance on secondary sources and the absence of primary field data from conference participants or national stakeholders limit this study. Contributions: This study contributes to gender and development studies by providing a historical perspective on global gender policy frameworks. It offers insights for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners engaged in advancing sustainable development on gender equality, while also informing future strategies for integrating women into development.]]>
