Abstract

This study aimed to identify plant species as pollen sources in honey and bee bread. Pollen sampling was conducted in Pepuro Barat Village, Wotu District, East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi Province. Pollen samples in honey and bee bread were matched with fresh flower pollen around the meliponiary within a radius of 100 m. Pollen samples were extracted using the acetolysis method, and the pollen was observed under a light microscope at 400 times magnification, and the percentage was calculated. The results showed that T. biroi bees foraged at the closest distance of a radius of 5-18 m from the hive. The highest percentage of pollen in bee bread (62.3%) and honey (54.8%) came from coconut and cocoa in bee bread (40.2%) and honey (33.3%). The primary feed with the predominant pollen type category came from coconut, and the secondary pollen type came from cocoa. The pollen size in honey and bee bread is mostly medium granules. Information on appropriate feed sources can be a reference for plantation managers, such as coconut and cocoa plantations to be integrated with stingless bee cultivation. In addition to being able to produce honey products and, of course, being an important pollinator of plantation crops.
