Background and purpose: Hypertension is one of the most frequent non-communicable diseases and a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, contributing to most deaths globally. The purpose of this study is to identify the correlation between gender, age, BMI, blood glucose, uric acid and cholesterol among adults in the community of rural area. Methods: This study is utilizing the quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The study involved 118 adult population of Sidomukti, South Lampung, Indonesia who were selected by purposive sampling. Data collected were age, gender, body weight, height, and blood pressure. Blood samples were also taken to measure uric acid, blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Descriptive and correlation analysis were carried out. Results: There was a significant association between gender and BMI (r=0.273); and systolic blood pressure (r=0.153) and cholesterol (r=0.187). Age group is associated significantly with weak to moderate association with all other variables. BMI was weakly associated with systolic (r=0.302) and diastolic blood pressure (r=0.312). Systolic blood pressure showed strong association with diastolic blood pressure (r=0.768) and blood sugar (r=0.214). Uric acid only has association with age group (r=0.334), while cholesterol level also showed association with age group (r=0.227), and blood sugar (r=0.199). Conclusion: There was correlation between variables that related to the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular disease among adults. Improvement of hypertension management, health education and promotion is essential to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease among the population.
