Abstract

Kailan is a leafy vegetable that experiences fluctuations in productivity due to weakened soil fertility from long-term use of chemical fertilizers. To improve the physical and biological properties of the soil as well as support growth, a balanced growing medium and fertilization are needed. This study aims to find out how the composition of the planting media and the concentration of liquid organic fertilizer affect the growth and production of kailan plants from January to March 2026. This study uses a two-factor factorial design arranged in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) pattern. The first factor is the composition of the planting media: soil + rice husk charcoal + goat manure, which consists of 3 levels: m1 = 1:1:2, m2 = 1:2:2, m3 = 1:2:3. The second factor is the concentration of liquid organic fertilizer, which has 3 levels: k1 = 100 ml/l, k2 = 150 ml/l, k3 = 200 ml/l. The research results show that there is no interaction between the composition of the growing media and the concentration of liquid organic fertilizer on the growth and yield of kailan. Treatment M3 (1:2:3) and a liquid organic fertilizer concentration of 150 ml per liter of water (k2) had a more favorable effect on the growth of kailan in terms of plant height and number of leaves, with an average plant height of 24.17 cm at 35 days after sowing and a total of 29 leaves. Treatment m2 (1:2:2) and a liquid organic fertilizer concentration of 200 ml/l (k3) had a better effect on other growth parameters like leaf width of 8.90 cm, stem diameter of 7.73 mm, and Kailan production, with a fresh plant weight of 22.77 grams, root fresh weight of 1.04 grams, and fresh weight without roots of 21.66 grams compared to other treatments.
