<![CDATA[The growth of e-commerce following the COVID-19 pandemic has created complex legal protections in return mechanisms, with online businesses facing systematic losses due to fraudulent returns by consumers with bad intentions. This study aims to analyze disparities in legal substance, dysfunctional legal structures, limited platform liability, and problematic legal culture that influence the protection of online businesses. The research method uses a normative juridical approach utilizing Lawrence M. Friedman's Legal System Theory. The results show that consumers can return goods without adequate documentation and that businesses experience returns that differ from the original product. Many disputes result in decisions favoring consumers. An asymmetric burden of proof occurs, resulting in multiple losses for businesses. The return and appeal mechanisms filed by businesses favor consumers. The study's conclusions demonstrate a fundamental imbalance in legal protection due to incomplete regulations, a pro-consumer bias in dispute resolution structures, and a legal culture that ignores the interests of businesses. The study recommends regulatory reform specifically for return mechanisms, strengthening the function of the BPSK (Regional Consumer Protection Agency), establishing an objective platform verification system, and educational campaigns to create a balance of protection in the e-commerce ecosystem.]]>
