Abstract

Background: Nurses must provide nursing care without missing anything. Missed nursing care is caused by several factors, including internal and external factors. The internal factors are the characteristics of nurses. Aims: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between nurse characteristics and missed nursing care (MNC) incidents in the inpatient room. Methods: This research used quantitative methods and an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study involved 125 nurses in the inpatient room, selected by proportionate random sampling. Data were gathered using nurse characteristics and a modified MISSCARE survey questionnaire. Data were analyzed using three statistical tests: Kendall's tau b, Spearman, and Chi-square. Results: The results showed that most respondents had a high incidence of missed nursing care (52%). The study results show no relationship between age, length of work, education level, employment status, marital status, and missed nursing care (p-values = 0.437, 0.578, 0.574, 0.261, and 0.340).  Conclusion: There were other factors that allowed missed nursing care to occur, such as nurses' perceptions, nurses’ awareness, and external factors. External factors such as hospital characteristics, nurse staffing, workload, and hospital management. To improve the quality of services by avoiding missed nursing care, attention must be paid to external factors. Keywords: missed nursing care, nurse, nurse’s characteristics
