Systemic functional linguistics is not only a theory that discusses a system of rules, but also a system of choices used by speakers to create meaning. This study focuses on the application of primary tense, which aims to analyze interpersonal meaning in the reading texts in the book Wider World in depth and comprehensively. Primary tense is one part of the finite element in the mood system; its function is to anchor actions or events to the time of speaking and enable the exchange of interpersonal meaning. The research design uses a qualitative corpus descriptive approach using AntConc software. The data used are 5 reading texts from the book Wider World with various themes. The results of this study will reveal the time of events and play an important role in generating interpersonal meaning that connects the writer and reader socially and ideologically.
