Abstract

The scarcity of domestic supply causes cooking oil to disappear from the market. This condition causes consumer panic and makes the price of cooking oil even higher. Therefore, government intervention is needed to control this crisis. This study aims to analyze Ibn Taimiyyah's perspective regarding market failure and government intervention in the case of cooking oil shortages in Indonesia. This study adopts a semi-systematic review approach. This study examines and historically evaluates previous studies on Ibn Taimiyyah's thoughts related to market failure and government intervention in dealing with market failure. The findings of this study indicate that the crisis was caused by several causes, including market distortion due to rising world vegetable oil prices, the implementation of the B30 policy, disruption of logistics flows, and distortion of genuine demand and genuine supply due to monopolistic practices. Ibn Taimiyah's thoughts on price regulation during the crisis emphasized the balance between market forces and ethical considerations. Ibn Taimiyah emphasized that prices in the market are determined by supply and demand. Ibn Taimiyah had government intervention to prevent exploitation and ensure market balance
